The Archipelago of Stockholm

l'Arcipelago di Stoccolma

This natural wonder, with its 24000 islands, islets and skerries stretches over 90 miles. These islands were formed from ice during last Ice Age, 10000 years ago. The outer islands of the archipelago are a wilderness, where visitors can enjoy the sight of sea eagles and seals. It is easy to get the archipelago. An excursion on one of the many boats that traffic the city’s waterways and the archipelago is an absolute “must” for visitors to Stockholm. Most boats have restaurants that serve classic Swedsish dishes prepared on board. Pay attention at the prices and don’t be astonished if they want 10 euro for a normal sandwich!

If you want to see the archipelago with a two and half hour guided trip you can enjoy the Ostranå I, a beautiful boat built in 1906. With the S/S Stockholm you can visit Vaxholm, the capital of the archipelago with a vibrant harbour life, picturesque buildings and fine restaurants. The Cinderella Boats (Cinderellabåtarna) transport you quickly and comfortably to the middle archipelago’s best destinations. These boats feature restaurants, cafeterias and extensive sundecks from which you can enjoy the view. They travel to Vaxholm, Grinda, Finnhamn, Möja and Sandhamn.
