The Vasa Museum - Stockholm

Galeone Vasa Stoccolma

The Vasa Museum (Vasamuseet) is the world’s only surviving 17th century ship. She sank on her maiden voyage on 10 August 1628, without even having sailed beyond Stockholm harbour. The ship was rediscovered and raised in 1961, after having rested on the sea floor for 333 years. With more than 95 percent of the original structure and incredibly beautiful ornamentation intact, the Vasa provides a unique insight into the early 17th century. Tourists from all over the world flock to the Vasa Museum to learn more about this fascinating ship and its amazing history.

Open:
